One Hundred Portals, One Circle is an exciting Land Art project that will be developed at the MABOS Museum, along the banks of the Corace River, in an area known as “La Macchia.” This project is realized by artists Angelo Gallo, Giuseppe Ferrise, and Lucy Mey, curated by Marilena Morabito, with technical support from Maria Muscianisi. The realization of “La Macchia” will actively involve 100 students from the Istituto Comprensivo “De Amicis” in Bagalati – San Lorenzo di Melito Porto Salvo (RC). The students were included through the project “Land & Art: Environment and Creativity,” funded by the Por Calabria Fers-Fse 2014-2020, under Priority Axis 12, dedicated to education and training. This project aims to support students, including those with disabilities, through outdoor learning activities. Project Details Activities will begin on October 1, 2018, and culminate with the project presentation on October 6, 2018. During this period, students will work closely with the artists and the curator, alternating artistic activities with educational moments. This experience will allow students to explore an artistic concept through “doing”, as well as through the “mind.” The project involves creating one hundred portals made from wood and recycled materials, symbolizing the transition from one material stage to a more sublime one. These portals will be installed to form a huge circle on the ground. This circle represents the concept of zero, which is not a symbol of nothingness but rather of everything, suggesting a journey of transition and transformation. Significance of the Project The idea of starting from zero and reaching one hundred reflects on growth and the importance of the journey and crossing. The involvement of the one hundred students collaborating with the artists signifies a recursive process that highlights the significance of the journey itself. The Land Art project “La Macchia” will not only enrich the vast natural exhibition space of the MABOS Museum but will also be included in the museum's annual catalog. Final Event On October 6, the Land & Art project will come to life with the realization of One Hundred Portals, a large circle, a bonfire, and the active participation of the 100 students, creating a unique and memorable experience. This event will represent a moment of celebration of creativity, collaboration, and connection with nature.
