The second edition of The Sense Residencies began on July 25, 2018, featuring artists Alberto Criscione e Lucy Mey along with young art critic Gianmarco Nicoletti. The residency was titled Achille e Nigra.
Criscione building on his experimentation dedicated to the “Return of the Hero,” a project that transfers the archetype of the hero from ancient Greece into contemporary society by placing him in modern life situations (Agorà 2015 and Komodia 2016-17), brought Achilles to the woods of Sila in quite an unusual setting.
Lucy Mey continued her story of little Nigra, a lost girl who, as her legend narrates, wanders among the larch pines typical of the Catanzaro Sila. Those fortunate enough to encounter her will experience pure thoughts, free from any manipulation, gaining the chance to look at the world with different eyes and see everything more deeply, allowing them to live emotions they have never experienced, even if only for five minutes.
The week of work was closely followed by young critic Nicoletti, who immersed himself in the artists’ world, their thoughts, and their habits. He observed them as they worked, reflected, conversed, and created. Day by day, he recorded his experiences in “The Critical Diaries of Mabos,” and below you can revisit his account, day by day.
Here are the artists sharing their stories about the works created during the residency at Mabos.
